FOUNDATION
Welcome to school life at Sirius College
Welcome to Foundation! Congratulations on having a fantastic start at school. I’m looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you and helping you grow as a learner to ‘reach to the stars’.
For those of you who don’t know me my name is Mrs Tracy Jaap and I am your child’s teacher this year. I worked at Sirius College for six months in 2017. I am a primary trained teacher with 20 years’ experience, many of those years being in the Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2 year levels. I am very excited to be returning to the school. I can’t wait for a fabulous 2020 school year to begin and being a part of your child’s learning journey.
This year I will be teaching your child:
English, Maths, P.E, Visual Arts and Integrated Studies.
Mrs Victoria Kelly is the computer teacher.
Mrs Stacey Koktas is the Music teacher.
Homework
Please read to and with your child every day and ensure that you sign the yellow diary book so I can see that your child is reading at home.
The homework booklet (in a red pocket) shows the task number and week that 1 page should be completed by. E.g. Week 5, Task 4.
Reading Eggs books will be assigned and it is expected that the student complete one book and follow up questions every week along with one spelling task.
Mathletics tasks will also be assigned. 3-4 of these can be completed each week. Please support the school with these online programs as it does align with the teaching and learning that is happening in the classrooms and helps to consolidate student learning.
Integrated Studies
History: This term we are learning about ‘self’ along with family history. We are learning about who are the people in their family the different structures of families and family groups today, and what they have in common.
Health: This term the students are learning about their own personal strengths, how they are similar and different from others and how they change over time.
Here we are celebrating our birthdays. We discussed our last birthday and what we wish for our next birthday and are seen writing and drawing about our birthdays.
Helping each other grow
The Foundation students have Year 6 Buddy Reading every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The Year 6 students are helping the Foundation students in practising reading. The Foundation students are helping the Year 6 students to be leaders. What great leaders we have!
